You must meet several targets if you are to tell restaurant success stories. In addition to employing a dedicated staff, ready to give extraordinary customer service and to upsell, you must make sure that your tables are occupied during peak and off-peak periods. Good quality food at a fair price is a given, and effective marketing strategies are essential.

Translate cost control to restaurant success. Keep your inventory down by buying local and buying fresh, as inventory is equal to money. If you use raw materials and prepare to order, you can cut down on waste, another costly area. Always focus on reducing costs and streamlining your process when it comes to preparing your ingredients.

Your long-term success as a restaurateur depends on you finding a unique selling proposition. Let’s face it, the majority of restaurants follow the essential recipes for success — customer focused employees, location, great food and good prices. Look for your own niche — a specialty dish, a specialty theme, certain gimmick or unique decor.

Restaurant success can hinge on consistency or a lack thereof. The customers will except the same high quality of food and service each time they come. Inconsistency will lower their impressions. Don’t forget that restaurant business relies on word-of-mouth, so consistent experience is essential to achieve good reviews.

Restaurants that do well do so because they have a number of factors in place before they start. There is strong competition in the restaurant industry, so your marketing goals must grow with your business over time. Ensure that your marketing initiatives are flexible, adaptable and able to embrace new advance in technology, including online solutions, to boost your place in the market.

An essential component to a winning business in the restaurant industry is an attention to detail. Cleanliness and presentation should be evident throughout the business, including tables, chairs, flooring, plates, glasses, decorations, restrooms — all should be clean and sparkling constantly. Keep the dust at bay, as it can accumulate quickly and there’s nothing worse!

Remember that customers are your business and this is an essential road to restaurant success. The way that they’re treated will essentially make or break you and their treatment should be at the top of your customer service philosophy. Every single member of your staff is essential in this role, from the cleaning staff to the back of the house to the front of the house. Staff members should be trained in how to deal with every conceivable problem.

Restaurant success is linked to passion and experience. All the members of the team should possess this, not just the owner or senior management. When choosing staff, you need to find people who have been in the restaurant business for a long time, as they are treating this as a career and not just as a job.

When it comes to wine and food there are some basic rules that do apply, but the number one rule for pairing wine with food is that your personal preference is always the right choice. However, there are wine choices that can enhance your meal when paired properly with the foods you have selected for dining. A great wine pairing can make your dinning experience unforgettable and a wrong choice of wine can bring together a poor mixing of flavors that can spoil the flavors of your meal.

To choose the right wine for dining, consider these four questions.

There are four question that will help you make the best wine decision for your meal. (1) What is the main dish? Is it fish, chicken or beef? (2) Will it be roasted, grilled or pan-fried? (3) Does the dish come with a sauce and if so, what kind of sauce? (4) Will there be any side dishes and how will their flavors impact your wine choice? There are many different types of wine choices available today, so the basic wine rules may not always apply, but generally speaking these rules remain for the most part, still accurate for helping you make the right wine choice: white wines with poultry and fish, and red wines with beef.

When choosing your wines “think wine power.”

Big, rich, heavy, meaty, full-of-herbs types of dishes work best with red wines. When choosing wines, you want to think about “wine power.” To improve the flavor of a beef entre, it should be served with a powerful wine. The same rule would apply for any entre that is served in a thick, heavy sauce. Red wines contains tannins, and when tannins mixes with the meal’s proteins it will blend together enhancing the flavor of the foods when combined. White wines do not contain tannins and therefore generally do not work well with red meats.

White wines are better suited for light foods, such as grilled halibut (fish-type dishes) or chicken breast (poultry-type dishes) grilled or pan-fried in a light sauce. Color and aromatic flavors influence taste and lighter wines will complement the meal and not overpower the flavors of the food. Even in light types of foods, the type of sauce that is paired with the dish can influence the taste of the wine with the food. If the poultry was cooked in a heavy, thick sauce, or a spicy flavored sauce like paprika or full-of-herbs type of sauce, then it would be better served with a more powerful fuller-bodied red wine or perhaps a Rose or a spicy flavored wine.

Choose more than one wine with a multiple course meal.

When you are eating multiple courses, you should choose more than one wine, as multiple courses of foods means multiple flavors and it would be difficult for one wine to taste great with all the different food choices. If your wine budget permits, consider ordering by the glass for appetizers and then order a bottle of wine with the main dish and then finish off by the glass again with a sweet wine for desert pairing.

You should start off with a lighter wine before drinking the more full-bodied types of wines. Wines that is high in acid works well with most foods, so think about those types of wines when ordering. Wines that are high in acid, you may not choose to drink alone, but can be quite wonderful when appropriately paired with the right food choice. Wines that have low acid can often be overwhelmed even with foods that are light in taste. The following examples of going from light to more full-bodied wines are: White Zinfandel, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewrztraminer and Chardonnay. And among reds, from lighter to fuller: Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Choosing a wine that you know you like, works every time.

The four questions guideline will help you to pair the right wine with your meal selection. Until you feel comfortable in making those wine choices for yourself, ask your server to suggest a wine for you. Be sure and tell them the type of wine you prefer, so they can keep that in mind before coming up with their recommendations. They should provide you with at least three to four great wine pairing choices in different price ranges. If you get a bottle or a glass of wine that you don’t like, then feel comfortable in sending it back and requesting a new bottle or a new wine pour. Of all the wines rules to follow when it comes to wine and food pairing, the number one rule to remember, is to always choose the wine that you like.

Whether you’re just starting out in the restaurant business or have been running one for years, restaurant customer service should be paramount in the daily operations of the business. A restaurants successes and failures are almost always centered on service, from the moment a customer enters your establishment to the time they leave it.

First impressions are everything, and your restaurant customer service will set the tone for the experience that is to come. If the service is over and above what is expected, word of mouth will help you exponentially. Your existing customers will not be able to wait to return!

Small touches can result in big rewards in a restaurant. For example, give them a special drink on a special occasion, get the manager to open doors and greet each customer, ask the manager to chat with the clients during service, present a mint with the bill and thank them as they leave. Servers should always be friendly, smiling and striving to go the extra distance.

Some restaurant customer service tips that are often overlooked are answering the phone within two rings, providing diners with the servers name, establishing a rapport by asking customers open ended questions, inquiring about any food allergies and knowing area information for out-of-town guests.

Many restaurants go the extra mile when it comes to customer service, by creating a whole new level of ideas. Some examples — offering a chef’s table, giving a rose to female guests, offering a tour of the wine cellar, having extra layers on hand should the guests be chilly, providing commonly requested recipes on cards, or giving a bag of chocolates or cookies as a memento.

Providing restaurant customer service that stands out from all the rest takes creativity and initiative among all employees. It might mean simply enhancing an already existing practice. For example, in addition to singing and presenting a cake to guests celebrating a birthday, have the entire staff sign a birthday card that includes your restaurants gift certificate. Or if reservations are being made to celebrate a special occasion at your restaurant, offer to supply balloons and disposable cameras.

In order for a restaurant to excel in customer service, management needs to express to all employees its definition of service and then empower them to do what needs to be done to exceed the needs of customers. It could be something as simple as providing an umbrella if it starts to rain as they are leaving for their cars, or having at the ready recommendations for an after dinner show or entertainment.

Restaurant customer service needs to exude from the front of the house to the kitchen. Greeters and wait staff can present the best in service, but if food presentation or attention to detail is lacking, all the efforts are for naught. All employees, regardless of the extent of their involvement with the customer, should be aware of how their performance will impact customer service.

Wine lovers the world over have given much thought about what classifies a good wine. Good wines are available worldwide in many different classes. One bottle of wine may taste completely different from another bottle of the same label. Many different processes go into making a great wine and you do not need to be a professional wine taster to know it.

The price of wine is never a good indicator of its overall quality. Many different factors such as flavor, aroma, age and additives make a wine what it is. Many people never get to see the process of how wine is made. Grapes are processed to remove pulp, seed and other solids to leave the grape juice behind. The grape juice is then put into bottles or barrels to ferment with any and all additives. Over time the fermentation process turns grape juice into wine.

Many times aging is the process which determines quality and flavor or aroma of a wine. This is because aging allows for the wine to actually become a wine through the fermentation process. The various different wines may produce separate flavors caused by the type of vessel in which it was aged within.

When wine is aged in bottles, many of the original components are contained in the wine. The alcohol levels will stop at some point when there are no more sugars available for the fermentation process to continue. This makes for a somewhat balanced wine that most people enjoy.

The quality of the wine can be greatly altered by aging the wine in wooden barrels. Many times different types of wood and wood quality will be used to produce different flavored wines. Wooden barrels provide many benefits to the wine aging process. They produce more alcohol because sugars in the wood allow the fermentation process to continue many years after the available sugars in the grapes are gone. This lets the quality of the wine go very high up.

Additives and additional ingredients may be added to the wine to help it ferment better or to add a flavor or aroma. These additives can change the flavor, aroma and quality of the wine and should be done carefully. Centuries of experimentation has brought the current wines into existence today.

Closing Comments

Wines are one of the world’s treasures that will continue to be produced as long as there are grapes to use as a fermenting base. Everyone loves wine and there is a wine to suit everyone.

The best way to relax the body and soul is by taking a sip of your favorite wine or spirits. This allows you to fade away from the normal stresses of life and get a good handle of the good life. Many times you could leave the kids at home with a babysitter and just go out to dinner just as an excuse to sample some exquisite wines. There are other ways to get some great wines and spirits easily through various sources.

Wines are often thought of as sophisticated beverages that are worth top dollar. Although this can be true to a degree, many times people underestimate the quality and flavor of many low cost wines. When a restaurant offers wines, they have extensive researchers to determine the quality of wines and their quality. Then again, a professional wine taster and grader may have their taste buds fouled by so much consumption of wines that they may not accurately portray the quality of a beverage. Everyone has their own opinion of course and yours is the one that should matter when consuming your favorite wine beverage.

Spirits can be described as very, very strong alcoholic beverages. They can be produced by distilling the alcohol so the concentration of alcohol is much greater than other impurities. This removes water from many of the beverages causing their proof to increase as a measure of alcohol by volume. The price of spirits is usually determined on concentration of alcohol rather than by flavor or distinction.

Finding the best wine and spirits is a real locating game. Most liquor stores will carry both wine and spirits from many different places. Again, price does not define quality. Some of the best wines are moderately priced well below that of the most expensive wines. Many wines are priced by where they were made, along with import costs and possibly ingredient contents. Spirits are priced usually by concentration of alcohol or proof.

Wine and spirits are available the world over. The best places to buy might not be at your local supermarket or corner liquor store. You can find great deals on wine and spirits through online stores that offer a vast selection of the best wines and spirits around the world.

Many times over, the best deals online can easily be found by looking for discounted and clearance wines and spirits. Although these may not be the best, they are significantly less expensive than those you would buy just for a small difference in quality that most people cannot determine. This allows for a very extravagant tasting wine or spirit for less cost.

Closing Comments

Wines and spirits are available the world over. There will never be a complete and comprehensive way to know about every wine or spirit ever produced, so try new ones often.

Cigars have been viewed as a luxury item, because of pictures represented through TV and movies of wealthy and powerful males puffing on a stogie while swirling a glass of fine wine. If you are just growing interested in cigars and wish to unwind with a stogie and beverage after a long day’s work, here are a few hints to get you started up.

Traditionally, strong drinks such as brandy, whiskey, and rum have been associated with cigars. It is argued that a strong drink, with a subtle hint of sweetness, should always be paired with a fine cigar. Although these pairings of drink and cigar have been popular for many years, the idea of pairing cigars with beer has been overlooked. However, beer should not be overlooked as a substitute for strong drink, and lately the trend has been to pair cigar with a variety of different brews. In fact, it seems that this democratization and popularization of cigars has entered the mainstream, and what better way to enjoy it then to pair if with a good fine beer?

However, let it be known that pairing a fine cigar with a fine beer is not easily accomplished, but is well worth the effort when done. Much of the pairing has to do with your experience level so if you are a novice, you will probably need help in pairing your specific cigar with an appropriate beer. For those of the more experienced palate, you probably know what you’re doing and can make the appropriate fusion of fine cigar with quality beer.

Because cigars are so strong and flavorful, one of the challenges in pairing is to find a beer that complements the intensity of most cigars. Many cigars can be complemented with a good wine or a quality whiskey. If your favorite cigar is described as spicy, woody, with a hint of cedar, try complementing it with a barley wine. The woody flavor of your cigar should complement deliciously with the fruity taste of barley wine. The combination of a spicy cigar with a slightly fruity beer can create an overall creaminess that enhances the flavors of each significantly.

If you have no clue as to what flavor combinations might work, then why not experiment but first find a cigar that you enjoy. Attempt to identify the traits that you enjoy most about the cigar, and then find a nice brew whose flavors you believe may ‘match’ or complement the cigar. In this same way, some of the best complements of beer and cigar have been discovered.

Whenever you are confronted with a variety of wine bottles in your neighborhood shop, sometimes, you tend to let go of the thought of purchasing because you can’t determine which is which.

Educate yourself

Don’t worry help is at hand because the individuals who work at the store will be able to five you lots of information and even recommend a good wine for your dinner party. There is a lot of details available about wine, just check out your local library and spend a little time reading about the types of wine you should drink with different types of food.

Free taste

For one to know how it feels, one must endure it first, that is why, whenever there are free tasting of wine within your area, grab that once in a lifetime chance. Your local wine store will sometimes run a wine tasting even and at the same time offer discounts of the wines available that evening. Through this, you are expanding your knowledge regarding the assorted types of wines.

Depend on dependable sources

If you just want to buy a good wine and would be happy to take the advice of a store owner then just go down to your local store. Some of the elegant wine stores have services that will fill you with details about different kinds of wine. You will find yourself inside a cellar that’s full of wine laid horizontally on compartments that prevents that wine from being exposed to heat and light.

Watch out for bad advertisements

As much as possible, do not go for commercialized wines because these are normally poor in quality and you’ll get lesser in taste. When looking for a wine make sure you don’t just go for the one with a pretty label, a nice looking label doesn’t mean a good wine. Your local wine store won’t stock the mass market wine found in super markets so are usually of a better quality.

Be aware of the importer

Wine bottles which are imported are required by the law to have certain shipping information printed at the back of every bottle.

Be an avid wine drinker

Like anything else practice makes perfect, so make wine tasting your hobby to truly learn about good wines.

The basics of wine sampling are really rather easy. You don’t need to have formal training and anyone can do it. Etiquette dictates that the gentlemen should ensure the ladies are always served their wine first. In most wine sampling parties, you can expect to be served with a room temperature bottled water. The water is to wash out your mouth between tastes in order for the roof of the mouth to be clean for the next wine. Make sure that the water you are given is not too cold as this can shock the roof of the mouth and ruin the taste of your next drink.

When tasting wine, it is important that you hold the wine glass by the base and not cup the bowl in your handle. The aim of this is that it prevents you from heating the wine with your hands, you have to remember that this will also impact the overall flavour of the wine.

Sampling the wine doesn’t just involve putting the wine in your mouth and roll it about your tongue a couple of times before spitting or swallowing.

Looking at the coloring is the first thing you should do when wine sampling. The glasses served up should always be clean and clear in order for you take a good look at the wine. Use a white backdrop when checking the colour of the wine, this will enable you to see the true colour and clarity of the wine. White doesn’t always mean white when it come to wine, you can sometimes find white wine with a brown, yellow or even green shade. Again red isn’t always a pure red, you can have many different shaded but older red wine tend to be a little lighter.

Try doing a rim examination and look at the color of the wine, this can give you some indication as to the age or flavor. Just tilt the glass and look at the wine, if it is purplish in color, it points that the wine is young, if it is brownish, it means that it is an older wine.

The next step is to smell the wine, first swirl the wine around the glass to expose the wine to the air, position the glass close to your nostril and inhale deeply. The wine could have been in the bottle for a little as six months to many years so by twirling the wine you will be releasing the flavors. mixing wine from the bottle with air is no different that mixing all the ingredients together when cooking.

Everybody loves a good martini, they are cute and colorful yet pack a lot of punch. But what about creating the perfect martini, for yourself or party guest? Not everybody can afford a great bartender, so why not learn it yourself and impress your friends & family while you are at it?

No need to go to the bar, once you learn how to make them and for cheaper. And perhaps you could even start selling your recipes and make a side income with your new knowledge.

So what do you need to make that cute little martini? You need a few items first. A martini shaker and martini glass are in order for you to make them.

These are a few of the items you will need. A Martini shaker and martini glasses are in order for you to make them. Don?t forget to keep them locked away from kids and pets

Don?t forget to ask your guest if they want it Shaken or Stirred? Some like it have it stirred instead of shaken, as they feel that shaken makes it bruised. So be sure to keep that in mind, as you make them.

Try out different types of alcohol and see which ones you prefer. With so many options out their, you may find a brand you like better than the others. Also try to mix alcohol together and see where they leads you.

Put the ice in the martini shaker and pour some type vermouth in it. Shake well with ice and pour it into the glass and roll in it the glass to coat the inside well.

If you want fun flavors, make sure you put them in with the gin and shake well. Add salt and whatever else you like into the martini glass. Then you have the perfect martini.

Add the extras or garnish you want to add, and sit back to drink it. Maybe even make a batch of them and call over your friends and family for a round of drinks?

Keep a record of all of your martini recipes and keep them jotted down in a notebook that you can keep in the kitchen. So when you have a party, you have your list right there.

Please drink responsibly when drinking any type of alcohol drinks.

If you want to make a great cup of coffee, you should try making it without a filter. I’m not suggesting that you make it cowboy style with the grinds floating around because that would be gross. No, I’m suggesting that you try a French press coffee maker. Unlike a filtered coffee maker, the French press doesn’t filter out the most aromatic part of the coffee, the oil.

A French press (sometimes called a coffee press) is usually a glass cylinder with a plunger like device inside. You place your coffee grinds inside and pour hot water into it. The water should not be boiling or you will scald your grinds, which will affect the taste. 200 degree water is the optimum temperature for a fine cup of coffee. If youre using a kettle to heat your water, remove it from the heat before if starts whistling. Either that or you can let the water boil but let it sit for a few minutes before pouring it into your coffee press. Remember to leave at least an inch of space when filling up the French press.

The coffee press works best with a grind that’s a little bigger than usual. If you’re grinding your own beans try to make them a little larger than what you’d buy for your automatic drip coffee maker. And you definitely don’t want to grind the beans down to dust. If the grinds are too fine, they will clog the coffee press.

After waiting about four minutes for your coffee to brew, it’s time to use the press. Remember that there’s very hot water in a French press and take precautions not to get burned. With a firm grip on the handles, slowly press the plunger down as smoothly as you can. Quick jerky motions could cause problems so avoid them. The press squeezes the coffee grinds down to the bottom of the chamber and leaves the coffee in the top. Now you’re ready to pour and serve.

The coffee press is an old way to make coffee but manufacturers have modernized the equipment. There’s conversation starting glass and stainless steel French presses and they even make travel mug editions. So now your insulated travel mug will not only keep your coffee warm but it’ll brew it as well.

Now a days everyone is starting their day with a cup of coffee. Why not start the day in style with a great tasting coffee made in a French press. It’s easy to make and it has a lot more flavor than coffee made in an automatic drip coffee maker. Once you try it, the French press coffee maker may become your favorite way to make coffee.
